FAQ > Enrollment FAQ > What is your definition of potty trained? (For Montessori and Discovery Pre-K Programs ONLY)

The following are requirements for our Montessori and Discovery Pre-K programs ONLY.  All other programs at SJES actively work with children on potty training within the program.

Except for occasional accidents, your child should be fully potty trained by the first day of school.  We understand in the transition to a new school, children may have more frequent accidents. After the third week of school, however, we expect children to have no more than two accidents a week for the remainder of the school year.

The following is our definition of being potty trained:

•  Wearing underwear all day (as opposed to pull-ups);

•  Being able to recognize the need to use the potty for both urination and bowel movements;

•  Being able to get to the potty in time;

•  Being able to undress to go to the potty; (please have your child wear clothes that are easy to get off and on)

•  Being able to wipe themselves;

•  Being able to dress again;  (we are willing to help with snaps and zippers)

•  Being able to flush the potty and wash hands properly;

•  Being able to tell a teacher if an accident occurs.
