Brief description: Our curriculum incorporates the teaching philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori, Jean Piaget, and other acknowledged experts in early childhood education. To cultivate children’s natural love of learning, hands-on materials encourage their curious minds and active bodies to explore abstract concepts with concrete experience, so learning is natural and effortless. Our Montessori program helps children develop their own individuality, so that they can strive toward their potential and enables children to create a social structure that honors their contrasting needs as individuals and as a group. It also guides each child along a path of development and education that is natural to them so that they may remain attuned to their own nature, nurture a reverence for the organic order of the universe, and become a whole and integrated human being. These objectives are achieved through practical life activities, sensorial exercises and intellectual materials through which arithmetic, geography, reading and writing, grammar and syntax, music, art, algebra, and geometry are developed in gradual stages. In order to obtain the maximum benefits of our Montessori curriculum, we encourage children to complete a 3-year cycle in the classroom, culminating in kindergarten. Taught by a highly experienced and certified Montessori Guide and Assistants, this program offers families all the benefits and structure of Montessori education.
During the 2012 - 2013 school year, our Montessori program will also benefit from the A Community for Education (ACE) literacy program. The ACE mission is to ensure that all children develop a strong foundation in early literacy skills during their first years in school. The "hands-on" curriculum uses song charts and multi-sensory tools to develop language and literacy concepts including listening comprehension, alphabet knowledge, concepts of print, phonological awareness, and emergent writing.
